 Residual Limb Socks are recommended to wear above the residual limb in a Prosthetic. It helps to secure your skin and make your limb secured by providing softness, reducing friction and providing an exact fit to your socket. It is available in numerous materials, patterns and quality.

Residual Limb Sock Types

Terry Towelling Socks: The pile within these Terry Towelling socks is fairly dense.

Cotton socks:are only half as thick as terry towelling ones.

Woollen Socks: Before terry towelling socks were invented, people with amputations who are accustomed to using an artificial limb wore woollen socks, which are the thickest type of socks. These days, they are generally given to persons who have just had an amputation, although they can still be given to replace the ones that are being used.

Nylon socks: are extremely thin and are cosy near to the skin for many persons who have had amputations. To make it simpler to slip into the plastic socket or to take the liner out of the socket when removing the artificial limb, they are increasingly frequently used over the soft foam liner.

Gel Socks: One particular type of sock, called Silipos or Dermasil, are gel based socks. They are prescribed for those who have had an amputation and suffer from a specific issue with the residual limb.

Socks with residual limb shrinker (also called as Juzo): When your artificial limb is not on, you should wear brown elastic socks called residual limb shrinker socks. These socks assist in keeping the contour and minimising swelling of your residual limb. Probably shortly after your amputation, you will be given a shrinker sock.
